I built that.

TypeSlate is designed to get out of your words' way. Let them flow out of you at the rate you can type them. There are no menus, spell checks, or pesky sidebars . You don't need to concern yourself with strange formatting quirks.

Just open the program and start spitting words into it. Damn the consequences — you can clean them up later. That’s what I’m doing.

Reinventing the Process

I reinvented the process with the writer’s experience in mind. What did I need in a tool for writing and journaling?

That is the question that was my guiding principle during the build.

It wasn’t fancy headers or more robust AI features. It was simplicity. It was minimalism incarnate.

I needed a tool that got out of my way. So I built it.

I’m sharing it because I firmly believe that I am not special.

I am unique, but uniqueness has its limitations. We all have things in common, and I am confident that there are many writers out there who want a tool that serves this purpose as well.

Something that can be used before they open Scrivener, Word, Substack, or ChatGPT.

The Results Don’t Lie

I’ve written over 120,000 words in TypeSlate since I built in the word counts and solidified the database structure.

(I deleted many of the early session counts while building the program.)

120,000 words in less than four months!

I could have never dreamed of that kind of output using traditional word processors. I am averaging slightly higher than that— around 1,100 words a day .

How do I know that? Because the program keeps up with it for me.

I don't need to keep a spreadsheet or consult some random bear online. I just write my drafts in TypeSlate, and it does the rest.
